Timothy Bond - Artistic Director and Actor at Syracuse Stage

Tim Bond told us that if we have a dream we can get it by going to college and doing good in life.

We asked him how long it takes and what it takes to be an actor. He said:

- getting a good job is important - not just throwing your life away, 

- he has a daughter and she is ten years old and fifth grade,

- he is not wealthy, but he makes good money and can be comfortable,

- he works about 48 hours a week,

- he does not work with the same people all of the time, different people come for different plays,

- you have to practice a lot when you are an actor and a director,

- you have to know how to communicate with actors, so writing and talking is important, 

He asked us what we want to be Shy'rel wants to be an actor and director (he is writing a play right now), Arianna wants to be a singer like Beyonce, Leanna wants to be a doctor and she will have to go to medical school.

Tim nos  dijo que podemos alcanzar  todos nuestros  sueños  si nos preparamos  con estudios universitarios y haciendo lo correcto en nuestras vidas.

Nosotros le preguntamos  cuanto tiempo se necesita y que se requiere para ser un artista como él. El nos respondió:

- Adquirir un trabajo es lo más importante.  Y no perder el tiempo sin hacer nada con nuestras vidas.

- El tiene una hija  de diez años y está en quinto grado como nosotros.

- El no es rico, pero gana lo suficiente para vivir confortable.

- El trabaja aproximadamente 48 horas a la semana.

- Tim no trabaja con las mismas personas todo el tiempo,  porque las obras de teatro cambian todo el tiempo.

- Hay que practicar mucho cuando eres actor y director a su vez.

- Es muy importante la comunicación con los actores así como las habilidades en la escritura y la comunicación verbal.

El nos preguntó que  queríamos hacer con nuestras vidas:  Shy’rel  quiere ser un artista y director y en la actualidad el está escribiendo el libreto de una obra de teatro. Arianna quiere ser una cantante como  Beyonce y Leanna quiere ser médico y para eso tendrá que asistir a la escuela de medicina.

Christie Bravos - Convention & Services Director at the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Center

Christie Bravos told us a lot about working in her business.

She said:
- she went to two colleges,
- she has a high school diploma and a college degree,
- works every day except Saturdays and Sundays,
- you have to be friendly and outgoing and organized to do her work,
- to do her job, she needs to use math and she has to be creative,
- she has been working for ten years,
- she helps international visitors too.

Ella nos contó muchas cosas de cómo trabajar en su negocio.

- Ella asistió a dos universidades diferentes.

- Ella tiene un título de bachillerato y otro universitario.

- Ella trabaja todos los días menos los fines de semana.

- Para poder realizar su trabajo de una mejor forma ella nos contó que hay que ser bien amigable, tener mucha energía y ser muy organizado en todo sentido.

- En su trabajo se requiere un conocimiento de las matemáticas además de mucha creatividad.

- Ella ha estado trabajando continuamente por 10 años.

- Parte de su trabajo es ayudar a visitantes de otras naciones en Syracuse.

Matthew Jackson, Zorangelis, Martin, Gisselle, and Yassel.

Matt got his job by accident, he went to school for one thing and wound up doing something else.

- he told us how to get a good job,

- it is important go to high school and college, you need an education for his business,

- it is important to use both languages (Spanish and English) so people understand you,

- he has to solve problems to help people,

- you don't always talk face-to-face to people, so you can communicate by phone and internet,

- he works 40 hours each week.

Matt encontró su trabajo accidentalmente. El decidió asistir a la universidad  por una cosa y termino estudiando algo completamente diferente.

- El nos enseñó cómo encontrar un trabajo.

- La importancia de asistir y terminar  estudios secundarios y universitarios. Porque sin estos estudios no se puede trabajar en este tipo de negocio.

- Es importante ser bilingüe (Español e Inglés) para poder comunicarnos con un rango de personas más amplio.

- El tiene que resolver problemas para ayudar a otras personas.

- No siempre tienes la oportunidad  de hablar con clientes personalmente por ende la habilidad de hacerlo por teléfono o por la internet es importante.

- El trabaja alrededor  de 40 horas a la semana.

Ellen Blalock: Photographer and Journalist for the Syracuse Post Standard

Ellen Blalock told us:

- she works about 6-8 hours each day,

- in order to be a journalist she needed a degree and go to college for journalism,

- to be a good photographer you have to be on time so that you can get the job done with other people,

- some journalists make about $40,000  each year,

- being biligual is important because we can get lots of jobs in the U.S. and it is very valuable!

- she asked us what we want from the future, and we said, "We want to meet more stars."

- she makes video tapes and photos for the news and for the newspaper,

- she showed us a video about a rapper that was on the news.

- Ella trabaja aproximadamente de seis a ocho horas al día.

- Para ella poder ser una periodista tuvo que asistir a la universidad y obtener un diploma en periodismo.

- Para ser un fotógrafo exitoso Ellen nos contó que hay que ser muy puntual y llegar antes que los demás de esa forma se puede reportar y fotografiar todo lo acontecido.

- Un fotógrafo puede llegar a ganar hasta $40.000 cada año.

- Ser bilingüe es muy importante en la carrera de periodismo y para obtener una gran variedad de trabajos atreves delos Estados Unidos.

- Ellen nos preguntó que nos gustaría  hacer con nuestro futuro, Nosotros le respondimos  “queremos conocer celebridades”

- Ellen elabora videos y toma fotos para las noticias locales y los periódicos de la ciudad.

- Ella nos mostró un video de un rapero que  fue parte de las noticias recientemente.

Shahid: Quiero ser un doctor porque quiero ayudar a muchas personas con sus problemas de salud. El Dr Castro tenía mucha confianza de si mismo y me gusta esa cualidad.

Jonelis:  El Dr Castro me explico todos los años que tendré que estudiar para poder ser un doctor come el, También me dijo que el camino puede ser difícil, pero yo estoy dispuesta a afrontar el reto.

Mara: Quiero ser una doctora porque me gustaría ser respetada por los demás y además se que lo puedo lograr porque tengo una gran personalidad.

Oneta: Con el doctor Castro aprendí lo difícil que puede ser un trabajo de medico por la cantidad de horas que ellos tienen que trabajar. Otra razón que por la cual me gustaría ser medico es que me gustaría trabajar en pediatría porque soy muy buena cuidando bebes y por eso creo poder ser  muy buena pediatra. También aprendimos  que el doctor Castro fue quien nos trajo a l mundo a todos en nuestro grupo.

Shahid: I want to be a doctor because I like to help other people with their health. Dr. Castro was very confident and I like that.

Jonelis: Dr. Castro told me how many years you have to study to be a doctor and how difficult it is sometimes but I am willing to take that risk.

Mara: I want to be a doctor because I want to be respected and I have a strong personality.

Oneta: I learned that being a doctor is difficult and doctors have to work a lot of hours. I also want to be a pediatrician because I am good with babies and that's something that I would like to do. I discovered that Dr. Castro delivered everyone in the group.

Jaime Alicea - Deputy Superintendent of the Syracuse City Schools

Jaime Alicea used to be the Principal at our school!

He told us:

- he had to work very hard to get up to higher levels in the school district,

- it is good to know English and Spanish to talk to kids and parents,

- in order to be a teacher you have to like kids, 

- you have to be honest, be a hard worker, and you have to get along with many people, 

- he loves it when he can make a difference in kids education,

- people in his job can make as much as $100,000 - $150,000,

- he asked us what we wanted to be and Alison said she wanted to be a stylist, Junariah wanted to be a lawyer, Tanisha wanted to be a dance teacher (Tanisha feels very prepared to be a teacher from her babysitting experience).

He loves to take photographs, he went to Puerto Rico and takes pictures of so many interesting things.

El señor Alicea fuel el director de nuestra escuela por un tiempo.

El nos dijo:

- A  le toco que trabajar muy duro para poder alcanzar niveles y posiciones elevadas en nuestro distrito escolar.

- Es importante poder comunicarse en  español e Ingles  para así mantener una buena comunicación con padres e hijos en las escuelas.

- Para ser un buen maestro te tienen que gustar los niños.

- Tienes que ser honesto, trabajar duro y tener buena relaciones con muchas personas.

- El aprecia mucho cuando puedo hacer algo importante por un niño que haga cambiar su vida de alguna manera.

- En su trabajo  se puede ganar  alrededor de$ 100.000- $150.000 al año.

- El nos preguntó que queríamos ser cuando seamos mayores y Alison dijo que quería ser  diseñadora  de modas,  Junariah  quiere ser un abogado. Tanisha quiere ser una profesora de danza (Ella se siente preparada para ser una maestra por su experiencia cuidando niños pequeños).

El le gusta tomar fotografías. Él fue a Puerto Rico y tomo muchas fotos interesantes de lugares atractivos. 

Nathan Strand - Master of Public Relations Student at Syracuse University

- Nathan was once a project coordinator for USAID Funded Health Project

- he went to Africa for his work and when some people tried to braid his hair he was not able to do it because it hurt too much,

- he works long hours every day,

- he speaks French,

- we talked about sports and Emmanuel told him that he does football and basketball,

- Emily told him that she wants to be a singer

- he din't tell us how much money he made but he does like his work very much.

- Nathan trabajo como coordinador de un proyecto de salud para la institución USAID.

- El fue al África como parte de proyecto de salud y los locales trataron de hacerle las trenzas en su pelo pero fue imposible para el porqué dolía mucho.

- El trabaja largas horas todos los días. 

- El habla francés.

- Hablamos de deportes y Emmanuel le dijo a el que práctica Futbol Americano y Baloncesto.

- Emily le dijo que ella quería ser Cantante.

- El no nos dijo que cantidad de dinero el ganaba pero que le gustaba mucho su trabajo.
