Favianna Rodrigues Artist and Social Activist

Favianna told us that an artist has to travel so everybody can know her art work. She works about ten to twelve hours a day and she sell her painting sometimes for $75 and maximum of $500.  She said that when she was little she used to draw a lot and that’s why today she is a recognized artist.

Favianna nos explicó la importancia de viajar para un artista para así poder dar a conocer su obra a todos. Ella trabaja alrededor de doce horas al día y los precios de sus dibujos oscilan entre los $75 y los 500 dólares. Ella también nos dijo que le gustaba dibujar desde pequeña y gracias a eso hoy es una artista reconocida.

Favianna said that and artist needs to travel all over the world and show their work to others. She has visit Los Angeles and many others cities. She made approximately $500 a painting more or less. Her paintings are mostly about social issues like immigration. She also said that she did not like sports growing up so she just draws instead.

Favianna nos dijo que un artista necesita viajar alrededor del mundo y mostrar su trabajo artístico a otros. Ella  ha visitado ciudades como Los Angeles y muchas otras ciudades del país y el mundo. Sus pinturas son valoradas en unos $500 dólares las más caras. Sus pinturas son basadas en asuntos y intereses sociales como emigración entre otros. Ella también nos dijo que no le gustaban los deportes y por eso se dedicó a dibujar tiempo. completo.

Favianna said that she works ten to twelve hours a day and she made $75 to $80 per hour sometimes. She also said that she travels about seventy two times a year.

Favianna trabaja alrededor de doce horas al día y su salario por hora es aproximadamente $75 dólares la hora. Ella también nos contó que viaja alrededor de 72 veces atreves del año.

She told us that she gets motivated to do her art work by all the social issues that happen daily in Oakland, California where she’s from. She also collaborates with other art people and social activists.


Ella nos dijo que su mayor inspiración  para hacer su trabajo  son las contantes injusticias sociales que ocurren diariamente en su ciudad natal de Oakland, California. Favianna también colabora con diferentes artistas y activistas de su ciudad

Favianna was born in America but her family migrated from Peru.  Her dad was Afroperuvian and her mother had native Peruvian roots. She became an artist because she liked to draw since she was very little. She also told us that she received a lot of free training while she was attending elementary and middle school.

Favianna nació en Los Estados Unidos De América pero su familia emigró desde Perú. Su padre tiene raíces Afroperuanas  y su madre tiene raíces indígenas.  Ella se convirtió en una artista porque le gustaba dibujar desde pequeña Ella también nos contó que ella recibió mucho entrenamiento de forma gratuita cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria.

Favianna showed us how to create our own posters by noticing and thinking about what is important to us and then doing our own poster art. Sometimes we worked in collaboration with others who felt the same way that we did.
